GSE: a Giant Leap Across the Grand Canyon

The desert has a beauty that overwhelms the senses, but it is mean. Everything is sharp, venomous, and unforgiving; and the dry heat can sneak the life out of you before you see it coming. Saturday, we made the epic journey into the Mighty Colorado's fiery lair with our Brazilian team. Except for a case of heat exhaustion during the hike down into the canyon, which turned out OK, we survived the deserts mean-ness and had a spectacular trip. From St George to Bar 10 Ranch and Whitmore, to the top of Mt Trumble and the Tuweep overlook, we ran over 200 miles of nasty dirt road.

As the billowing cloud of dust chased our truck along the rugged terrain, Humberto said, "This reminds me of the John Wayne movies I used to watch when I was a kid!"Nearly exhausted from the last ten miles of pounding over what should be an ATV trail, we decide to hike down for a swim in the inviting chilly waters below.
Some of us recharged our batteries in the cool, life giving water below. Some struggled back to the top. After we all re-hydrated, had lunch, and felt rested, we headed back over the top of Mt Trumble toward the Tuweep overlook. The truck was filled with the sounds of singing and laughing all the way.Dinner at Craigo's Pizza in Colorado City, and then home finished off a GREAT 13 hour day! Thanks Humberto, Alan, Renato, Marcio, Suyuri, and Camilla!
