Strike, Spare, Gutter Ball or just get close to the Jack



Welcome to the 643rd meeting of the Rotary Club of Dixie Sunrise

Maybe you haven't heard of Lawn Bowling, where have you been? It's been around for ages. It is a game the ancient Egyptians played and has been popular around the world ever since. R. Wayne Pace will teach you the details in a session of free lessons offered on a frequent basis.

We were delighted to have Dr. Pace give us a detailed history of the sport, together with Lawn Bowling's history here in St. George inclusive of the Huntsman World Senior Games and the sport's only facility located at SunRiver.

Lawn Bowling is a very social, fun and more exercise than you expect. Lawn Bowling is a major event, with SunRiver St. George the host, at the Huntsman World Senior Games held every October in St. George. Dr. Pace invited us all to come play a sport that has been played for centuries. Men and women can play and compete on the same level in this great sport. Once you try you will be hooked!

A Brief History of Dixie Sunrise Rotary

  • The first meeting of the provisional club was held May 9, 1996 at the Hampton Inn in St. George. There were 4 attendees: Gerald C. Harrison, Chapin Burks, David Prink and T. Robert Cochran.
  • The second meeting was held at the Hampton Inn with 3 attendees: Gerald C. Harrison, Chapin Burks and T. Robert Cochran. (What were they thinking?)
  • Subsequently, attendance grew until there were 25 attendees, and Rotary International issued the club’s charter on September 5, 1996, four days short of four months after the first meeting.
